Executive Business Coach

 

An executive business coach is a good idea for a company that is on the verge of change. Change management is an important task when drastic changes are happening in a company. For instance, if a software company wants to shift from using Microsoft based information systems to a Linux based information system then the company will experience a lot of changes not only on a technical perspective but on a human perspective as well. If there are Microsoft experts in the company then they may have to step down in terms of rank if the Linux experts are available. This will take its toll on the personalities of those involved. If you are the Vice President for information systems then you should be able to manage this change or else your company will suffer.

Having an executive business coach oversee the actions of the Vice President is a good idea because the Vice President will be able to vent out his or her frustrations to the executive business coach any time he or she wants. The executive business coach can then assess the pros and cons of a situation and find out what the Vice President can do to improve the status of the situation. An executive business coach does not necessarily have to be an expert on a particular management function in order to be successful. He or she must only be able to guide the manger or the executive in implementing his or her job. For instance, if you are coaching a women’s basketball team, you will have to oversee the team and how it is performing on the court. In this case, you can not be the one to go on the court and shoot the ball yourself.

You will be called for a technical foul if you intend to do this. When the women perform on the court, you can shout as much as you can and you can call as many plays as you can but you can not play. The women players are the ones who execute the play and they are the ones who take the shots. In short, as a coach, you can only show the women players what to do on the court but it is them who will do it. Going back to the skills sets, you do not have to be a good player in basketball in order to coach basketball properly. There is an entirely different skill set demanded for coaching basketball players.

You must be good at inspiring a team and showing them how to execute plays. You do not have to be athletic though unlike the basketball players on the team. As an executive business coach, the same logic applies. You do not have to be a good information technology expert if you want to coach a Vice President of an information systems department.
